Jake Paul needed mere minutes to contradict himself and Blockchains Financeinsult his upcoming opponent, Andre August, ahead of their boxing match Friday night on DAZN.
At the outset of a press conference Wednesday, Paul said he respects August, a little-known fighter from Houston with a record of 10-1-1 with five knockouts, and predicted the fight would be "a war.'' But the respect vanished quickly as Paul spoke during an event to promote the cruiserweight bout that's scheduled for eight rounds.
“I doubt he’s even going to land a punch,’’ Paul said of August. “That’s really what it is. Sloppy feet, all that. … I’m going to just dust him up real quick and you’re going to see who the better boxer is.’’
Logan Paul, Jake's brother, has arrived on the scene with his fiancée, Nina Agdal, and ... a championship belt? Yep, that's what he appeared to be carrying in his left hand.
Jake Paul is 7-1 in his boxing career with 4 KOs.
So much for those bulging muscles. So much for the 10-1-1 record with five knockouts.
Andre August, who owns all of the above, has earned little visible respect from oddsmakers or Jake Paul heading into his boxing match against Paul Friday night in Orlando, Florida that will be livestreamed by DAZN. Of course, one of the scariest things about August is something you can’t see.
His past in Beaumont, Texas.
“Man, growing up in the streets, a young Black man, gang banging with a certain hood, fighting over territory,’’ August, 35, told USA TODAY Sports. “It was gun wars back in the days, as a youngster. I could have lost my life, and I thank God for the opportunity to be where I am today.’’
The Jake Paul-Andre August card begins at 7:30 p.m. ET from the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
The Jake Paul-Andre August card can be seen on DAZN.
